Inspired by Rita D’Arcangelo 2
Three Essential Elements: A Composer, a Performer, an Audience
Classical and contemporary music need not be painful, boring, or overly intellectual. It can invite us to sing, dance, and dream. This is the belief that drives Three Essential Elements.
The composers and performers selected by THREE ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS hail from the worlds of cinema, television, ballet, musicals, and even cabarets. Their music is heard in concert halls around the world. At their request, renowned composers such as Vasco Pereira, Thomas Bramel, Véronique Bracco, Igor Vorobyov, Vincent Kennedy, and Ilan Chouraki presented their creations for flute virtuoso Rita D’Arcangelo, a laureate of international competitions and soloist with the HPAC Orchestra, the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, the Filharmonia Gorzowska in Poland, the Kammersolisten der Deutschen Oper Berlin, and the United Chamber Orchestra conducted by Piotr Borkowski. Their interpretations are featured in D’Arcangelo’s second album, “Inspired by Rita D’Arcangelo 2.” Rita D’Arcangelo studied under the legendary flautist James Galway, whose recordings have sold over 30 million copies.
The collaboration between Rita D’Arcangelo and Ilan Chouraki was a remarkable journey. She is a favorite among flutists; he is a reference point for composers. She brings tone, resonance, and dynamic range. He brings control and a visual sensibility.
Ilan Chouraki is an orchestrator, arranger, and composer of classical, modern, and jazz music. But above all, he is a composer. Don’t even try to enter his world if you don’t have a sense of irony, for humor is his key. The game is to seek it out and find it. For Rita D’Arcangelo, Ilan composed “The Story of the Charming Prince.”
It’s music to be seen. A forest, a prince strolling through it. He’s charming. He meets a bird. So far, so normal. But around the bend, at the crossroads, there’s a coffin. Transparent. Someone’s inside. Not feeling well. The cis-hetero, non-deconstructed predator who profits from cultural appropriation laments, awakens, and then falls back asleep. In fact, he’s not quite sure where he stands. Should he kiss? Without written consent? If he doesn’t kiss the LGBTTQQIAAP, etc., he’ll decompose, crumble. But a little kiss opens the doors to procreation. Absolute bliss. Completeness. It’s up to the performer, the flutist, Rita D’Arcangelo to take part. The game is in her hands. She will interpret the story. Meanwhile, the prince and his bird friend go on their way.
You can play with Ilan. Now, let’s laugh.
The album is available on all streaming platforms and as a CD.
